Papers of Laura F. Hutchison Davis, 1880-1993 (bulk 1937-1985).

Correspondence, minutes, reports, handbooks, news releases, training plans, conference papers, speeches, notes, newspaper clippings, school reports and compositions, genealogies, oral history interviews, financial records, photographs, and general materials relating to Davis's personal life and professional career. The social work series documents her membership on community boards and task forces, notably the Linn County Council of Social Planning, the Family Service. Agency, which Davis worked to start, the Linn Economic Action Project, and the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program. This series also contains Davis's notes and the policy statement she wrote for the 1961 White House Conference on Aging and records pertaining to her service on several of the Governor's commissions, most notably the Iowa Commission for Senior Citizens. Davis's extensive volunteer activities are documented in records relating to the Linn County Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Young Women's Christian Association, the Quota Club, and the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Especially noteworthy are the records relating to her volunteer service with the Geneva Corporation which built the thirteen-story retirement appartment building, Geneva Tower, in downtown Cedar Rapids. The education series contains records, reports, papers, diplomas, and transcripts from Davis's school work, from the primary and secondary grades through her undergraduate work at Coe College (1934-1938), her graduate work at the State University of Iowa (1938-1940 and 1949-1950), and her teaching assignments at Mount Mercy College and St. Luke's School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids. The personal series contains extensive correspondence, chiefly with her husband, Lloyd L. Davis, and two oral history interviews.
